Rayon Wrapped Wire - Hat Wire - Millinery Wire
People have different names for this hard yet very pliable wire that
can serve many purposes. Manufactured as Millinery Wire this wire is
made various gauges (diameters), in black and white. We are stocking
only three sizes at this time, #16 gauge, #19 gauge and #21 gauge. The
#16 gauge hat wire is heavier and the #21 is finer, with #19 being the
middle gauge.
It take some practice to get them doing what you want them to do. As
the hat wire comes coiled in a roll it is best to work "with"
the existing curve as much as possible.I asked a milliner with
over 30 years experience to give me her opinion of this hat wire
and she said they exactly the quality she looks for: "hard
yet pliable". You may want to order a yard or two of both
these new products to experiment with and discover how well they
suit your needs.
Hat wire, also known as millinery wire can be used for several
purposes. We have made both an Elizabethan
Wired ruff and a Bonnet frame (below) and one of our customers
has used it with great success in
the top edge of her corsets.
