Cage Crinoline

This cage crinoline was built by one of our customers, Jenn Goodger of Calgary. She did not have a commercial pattern but used historic research to build this garment. Jenn has no formal costume training but she clearly has a good eye and a great deal of determination. I have often thought about this project but knowing how much was involved I have yet to attempt it. Thanks to Jenn building the cage crinoline and sending me photos we can show all of you what a cage crinoline is all about.

The horizontal lines are spring steels; our product #50-8405-10 and they are connected to form hoops by using our hoop connectors #00-8400-11. The vertical lines are actually petersham ribbons (our product #78-7645-01) and Jenn chose to rivet them to the steel. You have to be sure your placement is right before you rivet! Each vertical line is two layers of petersham with the steel sandwiched between them and the rivets going through all three layers. Jenn punched holes in the steel first. The petersham was also used for the waistband.

The bottom ruffle is removable, note the buttons along the bottom steel which the ruffle encases.
